PAGE 8 EASTERN COLORADO PLAINSMAN THURS., APR. 17, 1980, I By LENA MARTIN American Legion Post 31 and Auxiliary unit 31 met Tuesday evening at the Legion Hall. The girls filled out re- ports. They will be selling poppies at the Lions sale athis poppies at the Lions sale this month. The Legion boys held their election, with all officers being held over another year. Refreshments were served. Lutheran Ladies Aid met at the Trinity Church basement for their regular Bible study Wednesday afternoon, with seven ladies and Pastor Berg- man present. Maybelle Martin served angel food cake with strawberries, coffee and tea. A dinner was served Thurs- day noon at the Legion Hall for the Emmerling relatives, neighbors and friend. It was sponsored by the Auxiliary girls. Mr. and Mrs. Lester John- son of Littleton were Tuesday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Covington, Sr. Mrs. Johnson is a niece of Mrs. Covington. Paul Martin went to Sterling Tuesday, where he attended the funeral of his agricultural teacher. Genoa's new town board members were sworn in at their April 3 meeting, and took a vigorous look at the town's immediate and upcoming needs. The following priorities were identified, and will be looked into: --Updating the fire depart- ment, including upgrading the fire truck and repairing fire phones. The possibility of moving the fire phone from the grocery store to the Smartronics store was also discussed. A pension plan for the volunteer firemen will also be looked into. --Snow removal. Putting a blade on the trash truck and talking to the county about improving snow removal. --Repairing the town trac- tor and putting on power steering. --Setting a day in April for rabies shots for pets, to be administered by a local veter- inarian. --Upgrading of the water system; replacing valves on existing wells, and replacing and repairing water meters. Mayor Smart said that he will work on appointing com- mittees to act further on the various priorities. In other business, work on street signs and street num- bers was reported to be pro- gressing. With the help of the Lions Club, routed-out red- wood posts have been placed on the street corners, and the town is now awaiting for the ordered aluminum house numbers to arrive.
